Floorings come in many different shapes and sizes, which you need to get yourself familiar with as you’re nearing your home renovation schedule. You can choose from carpet floorings, hardwood floors, concrete floors, and so much more. But one of the most popular tiles nowadays is also available in different forms, like ceramic and porcelain. These are ideal for kitchens and bathrooms, though you can also use these for your living area. Moreover, they are durable and resilient, making the perfect floor investment because they will last a very long time without floor repairs.
If you’re thinking of getting tiles for some parts of your house, you also need to understand the responsibility that comes with it. Even though they are pretty strong, they are still susceptible to damages, like cracks. You need to be prepared in cases like these, so read below some tile repair tips and tricks.
Minor Chips in Your Tile
If there are small chips and dents in your tile, you can use nail polish with the same color to match the tile. If the color of the tile is offbeat, you can simply mix some nail polish shades to get the hue that you need. Dab it delicately and carefully on the chip, and if the spot darkens as it dries, you can remove it with acetone and do it again.
For Larger Chips or Holes
You can use a ceramic filler if you find any significant chips or holes in your tile. Blend colors as necessary, just like what you did with the nail polish. Once it’s dry, you can sand it until smooth and cover it with a coat of lacquer.
You can repair cracked tiles with siliconized caulk. If the siliconized caulk looks ugly after it dries, you can use paint to blend with the tile design. The best paints are oil or urethane-based to stand up against heavy foot traffic.
Broken tiles that have missing pieces need to be replaced. You can bring the tile to your local tile manufacturer to find the best match. It’s worth noting that tile designs come and go, which is why if your tiles are old, you might have a hard time looking for the perfect match. In times like these, you can use a carpet over it for the meantime while you’re still searching.
If your tiles are showing signs of wear and tear, you can refresh them with the help of paint. You can prepare the floor by scrubbing them and then sand the surface lightly. Next, use a roller to cover the tile with oil or urethane-based paint. After 24 hours, seal it with a floor finish.
